Mats, lubricant and fixes
Most belt problems come from lubricant, tension or tracking. A bottle of silicone lubricant and an Allen key fix many of them.
Most makers ask for silicone lubricant under the belt every few months or after a set distance; check your manual for the interval. Lift the belt edge, apply along the centre line of the deck, then walk at a slow speed to spread it.
If the belt drifts to one side, adjust the rear roller bolts a quarter turn at a time with the machine running slowly. If it slips, tighten both bolts equally. Over-tightening wears the rollers and motor.
Error codes differ by brand: the manual or the maker's support page lists what each one means. Always remove the safety key and unplug the machine before you lift the belt or open the motor cover.
Common mistakes
- Using WD-40 or oil instead of silicone lubricant.
- Tightening one side only when the belt slips.
